As I was saying before I lost the first blog and is now rewriting it, I interviewed today for Pro med. I was referred to them by my girlfriend who got a job with them in the Bronx. The receptionist told me because I hadn't worked in 2 years and had no recent work experience in the medical profession, she could'nt register me.

I said I worked for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in the 80’s in the department of anesthesiology and also Cornell Medical Center in the ophthalmology department. She said twenty years ago was too long. Also I haven't worked in two years. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost my job with two million other Americans and was collecting unemployment until May 2 of this year. Now I have no income because the unemployment ran out.

I am amazed to be having this conversation and ones like it with office receptionists because I do have a master degree and my undergraduate degree is from William and Mary, a very good Virginia school. Also I have a passport and valid driver's licence (it doesn't need to be renewed until December, I renewed my passport in March of this year) My girlfriend, the one who referred me to Pro med and other temp agencies has only a high school diploma.

I went to three agencies today and was given the same crap. I find it hard to believe that the city isn't interested in a workforce that is educated and skilled. For two years now I have been looking for permanent employment and have found none. The telephone haven't rung for two years unless it was an online college asking me to enroll in courses. I already have 3 degrees but would be interested in my MSW or LCW.

My unemployment ran out May 2 and my boyfriend is helping me I hope I can hold on. If anyone knows of any organization that is hiring, fill me in.

Also I get a lot criticism that I only worked temp jobs and have no experience with permanent plancement or full-time employment. Well, the purpose of an education(2 BA's and a MA) is to communicate that I am able, competent and qualified to be an asset to any organization if given a chance. I would consider entry-level work if it would get my foot in the door.

I received so many rejection letters this summer from all kinds of organizations, US Census Bureau I think they sent me a letter for all eleven positions I applied for after I took the numerator exam and the supervisor exam and scored above average on both, private sector jobs, CUNY, and HR. These correspondances were by mail.

I thought of moving to Washington DC, but my workforce counselor said she has friends in DC and the situation is worse.

If anyone has any good ideas, or job leads I'm all ears!

A lot of forwarding letters are sent to me by email. I also followed-up with a phone calls. I had one returned call and then they forgot about me. One organization sent me an email and I know they were enraged about the many times I replied to jobs on their website that I was interested in.

I do hope something breaks soon.

I am reminded of an interview I saw with the head of Southwest Airlines-he saisd that he backed his employees when dealing with a "troublesome account". He said that it simply wasn't worth the time and trouble to cater to EVERY WHIM, GROUNDLESS COMPLAINTS, UNREASONABLE REQUESTS, etc. He felt that his employees would needlessly suffer, not give their all in service and it would be starting a policy that would only backfire later. Time is money, but abuse from clients is TIME NOT WELL SPENT.

We all know that customers are not always right and just plain wrong but do we all know how to let the customer know that s/he is wrong.
For example. a customer calls to make a reservation and instead of saying 5pm, s/he says 5am. You don't send a car and customer calls and ask for her/his car. You have a voice recording that proves s/he was wrong about the time.
S/he doesn't want to be charged and important customer.
What do you do?

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
